ABOUT US
Pickett County Cope was started by a group of individuals from a support group that was trying to deal with drug addiction in their own famlies and friends. The support group was started by Dickie Hinton the local pastor at the Methodist Church. He saw the need to help the famlies trying to deal with drug addiction.
MISSION
The mission of the Pickett County Community Outreach Prevention Education (COPE) Anti-Drug Coalition is to educate and rasie awareness of alcohol, tobacco, illegal and prescripition drug abuse, and to strengthen community partnerships and prevention strategies in Pickett County.
Are you or a family member affected by illegal drug use?
Whether you answered yes or no, we, as a community are affected by it everyday. COPE (Community Outreach Prevention Education) is a group of concerned citizens who say enough is enough. In fact COPE's vision statement is a "Drug Free Community."
This is and has to be a community effort. We have to stand up for our community now so that there can be a healthy future. We are not trying to scare anyone, but we are trying to be real about what is affecting us all. It is hard to believe that there are drug deals going on around us constantly. It's also hard to imagine that our students know exactly where to go if they want to get an illegal substance. Our eyes are being opened to these facts a little more everyday.
It is time that we all do something about it. We need to get the word out that there is a drug problem in our community. Did you know that Tennessee is a leader in the nation for the use of prescription drugs? We know that this does not sound like a big deal, but it does lead to one of the biggest problems that we have in this county, which is illegal drug use, but also the abuse of prescription drugs. We might think that this could not be, but it is true. This spans from people stealing prescription drugs. These are just some of the issues that COPE is looking at.
We invite you to join us, every 4th Thurday of the month at 6:00 p.m., at the community center. Again, it is going to take every one of us. We need your help.
*Update* Manna House will start have meetings in Byrdstown on Tuesdays , check back for more info. on times.
